A proposed Florida bill would require courts to proactively notify former homeowners and heirs when surplus funds are generated in a foreclosure case — potentially preventing millions from going unclaimed.
“We believe people lose money not because they’re careless, but because they’re never told,” said a bill sponsor.
Surplus fund claim notices would be mailed, emailed, and posted online under the proposed legislation.
