Many Floridians lived in homes owned by parents or grandparents who later lost the property to foreclosure. Recovery groups are now reaching out to these non-owner residents who may still qualify as heirs to surplus equity.
“You didn’t own the house — but if you’re next of kin, you might still own the refund,” said a family equity advisor.
Outreach is targeting multigenerational households, renters in family homes, and informal estate arrangements.
New QR Code Flyers Let Florida Residents Check for Surplus Equity With a Single Scan
Hialeah, FL – April 2025
Equity recovery teams are deploying surplus check flyers with scannable QR codes that let homeowners instantly access a claim lookup tool. These flyers are appearing at courthouses, apartment complexes, community centers, and post offices.
“You scan it, type your name, and see if the court owes you money,” said a lead outreach designer.
The tool has already led to over $2 million in new claim filings this year.
