When a property in Palm Beach County is sold at foreclosure for more than what’s owed, the extra money — surplus funds — is deposited into the court registry. But the courts don’t notify every potential claimant directly, leaving many unaware they’re owed money.
“People often don’t realize the burden is on them to file a claim,” said circuit court assistant Miranda Bloom.
The claim process involves sworn documentation, ID verification, and, in some cases, court hearings.
